It has only been a few days since a lot of panicky WhatsApp messages went back and forth about a 10M-high tsunami about to strike Qatar’s shores soon.
In the end, Qatar’s Meteorological Department had to step in to debunk the rumours, as we stated in THIS STORY.
But this got us at Qatar Living thinking. Qatar may have escaped for now, but was there really a chance of a tsunami or an earthquake ever hitting this country?
We dug around a little and do you know what we found? Qatar, blessed by God with abundant supplies of natural gas, is also the safest country in the world when it comes to experiencing natural disasters.
Natural disasters can occur in several forms — earthquakes, floods, land slides, volcano eruption, or tsunami, to name a few.
According to the 2016 World Risk Report, Qatar is ranked 171st out of 171 countries in the list of nations with the most risk of natural disasters.
Saudi Arabia was ranked 169th, while Bahrain (165th), UAE (163rd), Oman (151st) and Kuwait (139th) are higher on the list.
The report took many factors into account while determining a country’s vulnerability and its exposure to natural hazards.
Since this report is considered as the last word by experts around the world, please know that Qatar is the safest country you can choose to live in.[Qatarliving]
