Doha: Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari opened the sixth edition of Qatar International Boat Show (QIBS) yesterday at the Porto Arabia Marina at The Pearl-Qatar.
Among those who attended the inauguration ceremony were Ibrahim Jassim Al Othman, UDC President, CEO and Board Member; Captain Mohammed Ali, Executive Director of QIG Marine Services; Fahad Zainel, Chief Corporate Services Officer at Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA); ambassadors and other dignitaries.
The five-day show, considered one of the largest events of its kind in the Middle East, has seen the participation of more than 30 exhibitors from Qatar, Germany, Italy, Turkey and Pakistan showcasing the best luxury yachts designed with international craftsmanship, along with boats, dhows and marine equipment and accessories. It acts as a global platform for major brands to showcase their latest products to potential customers from Qatar, the Middle East and around the world.
Organised by Al MannaiPlus Events, QIBS provides opportunity to discover the latest technological innovations and contributes to Qatar’s tourism and exhibition industry.
Khalid Issa Al Mannai, Chairman of Al MannaiPlus Events, said the show “not only meets the requirements of marine life enthusiasts, but it also provides an opportunity to discuss and obtain the necessary information with representatives of the Qatar Free Zones Authority during the exhibition period.”
A must-attend event for boating enthusiasts, QIBS serves as an ideal maritime-industry networking platform and a key business driver for the marine sector.
“This is not our first time at QIBS and we wanted to bring some of the fun stuff here for marine enthusiasts. We have participated in many boat shows around the world and there is a great potential in Qatar for the marine business and I’m expecting increase in the number of visitors and good business during the event,” said Speed Marine Sales and Marketing Director Sevil Tonkal.
Speed Marine, one of the biggest exhibitors at QIBS, has brought to the show some of their finest marine equipment.
For his part, Zainel is inviting investors and expatriates to come to Qatar Free Zone, invest and start their business.
“We are having a marina within one of the free zone areas and it will have direct access to Hamad Port. The purpose of the marina is to have maritime services for manufacturing and servicing the port industry. It is a massive area with over three kilometres of bay,” said Zainel.
Other exciting activities such as marine tours, water activities and marine races run alongside the show.Courtesy:ThePeninsula
